Gainful Employment Certificate Programs
The U.S. Department of Education requires colleges and universities to disclose certain information for any Title IV eligible program that prepares students for “gainful employment in a recognized occupation." The educational programs offered by public institutions that are subject to the gainful employment regulations are non-degree programs, including all certificate programs. Specifically at UNM, gainful employment programs are all "stand-alone" certificate programs. The following gainful employment disclosure information must be provided:
- Occupations the program prepares students to enter
- Occupational profiles
- Tuition and fees the institution charges the student for completing the program within normal time
- Costs for books and supplies
- Cost of room and board (if applicable)
- On-time graduation rate for students completing the program (only if there are more than 10 students that completed the program)
- Job placement rate for students completing the program (not currently required in New Mexico)
- Median load debt incurred by students who completed the program (only if there are more than 10 students that completed the program)

Main Campus and North Campus Gainful Employment Certificate Programs
The Computational Science & Engineering (CSE) Certificate Program at the University of New Mexico is an interdisciplinary graduate program aimed at promoting advanced research in the computational sciences, including applications, algorithms, and architectures. It is open to students who already have a graduate degree in a mathematical, scientific or engineering discipline. Its purpose is to prepare students to effectively use high-performance computing within their disciplines.Historic Preservation and Regionalism, Graduate Certificate Program
Our six course certificate program is unique in its combination of proven historic preservation techniques with a spectrum of contemporary planning and design approaches for engaging history, culture and place. The need to educate a future generation of professionals capable of conserving New Mexico’s, the nation’s, and the world’s outstanding cultural heritage while creating new regionally-responsive design led to the creation of the School of Architecture and Planning's Graduate Certificate Program in Historic Preservation and Regionalism (HPR). The Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation and Regionalism (HPR) requires the completion of a minimum of 18 credit hours. Students may request that up to nine hours in the certificate also be used to satisfy graduate degree requirements. UNM’s Graduate Certificate in Instruction for Students with Intensive Social, Language, and Behavioral Needs provides advanced training in the area of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and interventions for students with significant support needs. The Graduate Certificate Program is open to students who wish to pursue a graduate degree in Special Education or in other related fields at UNM, and to individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields and who are interested in having specialized training in work with students with social, language, and behavioral needs.Urban and Regional Design, Graduate Certificate Program
The Certificate provides a coherent framework of courses for current graduate students and post-graduates interested in the improving the quality of life in our settlements through the physical design of regions, cities, towns, and their component pieces. Completion of the Certificate will be recorded on students’ official UNM transcript. Completion of the certificate may aid you in applying for private, public, and non-profit jobs requesting urban design skills, and for design and planning jobs in firms or departments that engage in urban work.Women’s Studies, Graduate Certificate Program
The Graduate Certificate in Women Studies is designed as an area of specialization for students pursuing a master's degree or a doctorate in disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, or the professional schools at the University of New Mexico. The Graduate Certificate provides graduate students the opportunity to complete an education program that addresses the history and culture of women, the social structures of gender, and feminist perspectives on scholarship.

This 12-month program is an advanced specialty course intended for advanced imaging specialists who desire specific training in CT. Individuals who have completed the Associate of Science degree program in Radiography can also choose to complete the baccalaureate degree with a concentration in radiography. They have a choice of two emphases. 1) Magnetic Resonance Imaging; or 2) Computed Tomography. Individuals who have completed a certified Radiography program and hold certification as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologies (ARRT) may apply for admission to complete the certificate in Computed Tomography or Magnetic Resonance Imaging.Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Certificate

Nuclear Medicine Technologists require a wider base of skills with which to compete in today’s job market. The goal of the Nuclear Medicine Program is to provide the technologist with skills necessary to perform the complex diagnostic procedures involved with this field. Upon successful completion of the program, the student receives a certificate in Nuclear Medicine imaging and is eligible to sit for national certifying examinations given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.Peace and Justice Studies, Certificates
The Peace Studies and Justice Certificate Program offers all UNM undergraduate and non-degree students the opportunity to both study and promote peace and justice issues through interpersonal, institutional, societal and/or global terms. The certificate is a component of the UNM Peace Studies Program, administered through the College of Arts & Sciences, which also offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate minor degree in Peace Studies for students enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences.

UNDERGRADUATEAdministrative Assistant, Certificate
The Certificate in Administrative Assistant is designed to develop the skills and abilities necessary to meet employment standards in a variety of office settings. The Administrative Assistant program offers training in organizational and interpersonal skills as well as office automation and written communication. The individual completing this certificate will be employable as an administrative assistant, secretary, clerk receptionist, clerk typist, and word processing operate or. (Courses taken as part of the certificate program may apply towards an Associate of Applied Science degree).Applied Arts and Crafts, Certificate
The Certificate in Applied Arts and Crafts provides training in the fine and applied arts. Traditional and contemporary methods of art making and critique practices are presented and explored. Practical, technical, conceptual and professional issues are emphasized. The Business Computer Certificate Program consists of hands-on laboratory training to prepare students for employment in Northern New Mexico as well has to provide a basis for further study. Key industrial and governmental employers in the area have endorsed our program. The program emphasizes up-to-date PC applications that are used in a business office environment. Opportunities for employment for holders of a one-year certificate may include: Finish Carpenter's Helper, Apprentice Trainee, Cabinet Builder's Helper, and Form Carpenter's Helper.
The Culinary Arts Certificate Program will round out your knowledge and skills as you gain hands-on learning experience and a more in-depth knowledge of the culinary arts.
The Dental Assisting Certificate Program is a one-year, full-time program, beginning each Fall Semester. The program is open to 12 students per academic year. Required courses are conducted in the fall and spring terms and practicum hours take place during the summer term. Some travel and participation in community activities is required. Students must meet the regular UNM admissions criteria and are selected for the Dental Assistant Program based on personal interview, application, and high school or previous college records. The Dental Assistant may comfort an anxious patient, bill insurance companies, and assist the dentist in providing treatment to patients. Through strong educational preparation, the Dental Assistant may assume responsibilities that are within his/her abilities and are recognized by the state practice act.
The Digital Graphic Design program consists of hands on laboratory training to prepare students for employment in Northern New Mexico. The program will provide practical and conceptual experiences that will supply the student with tools for employment. The Digital Graphic Design Certificate program is a department committed to the planning and presentation of graphic ideas to be used in publications, advertising, broadcasting and web media. Our goal is to keep students current with evolving means of design expression and design tools. Students will be learning digital technologies that will enable them to work in a wide range of media projections. In addition to small class sizes, the program will allow students to explore their personal strengths and focus their interests. With our state of the art Macintosh Lab, this allows our students to be at the forefront of today’s always changing technology.
UNM-Taos Certificate in Early Childhood Multicultural Education is designed as a basic professional preparation program for students who wish to work with children from birth through age eight in various inclusive settings such as K-3, Head Start, child care, and home care providers, teachers, assistants, and administrators. This one-year competency based program will provide education in the theories and practices of child development and early childhood education. As part of the certificate, students will complete the academic requirements for the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. All courses completed in this program are fully transferable into the Associate of Arts degree program.
The Certificate in Holistic Health and Healing Arts is designed as a gateway program to familiarize students with careers in holistic health, healing arts and integrative healthcare. Students develop self-awareness and consciousness relative to the integration and balance of body, mind and spirit. This program supports students in developing a capacity to examine lifestyle choices and their impact on health. The primary focus is on self-care and learning and practicing approaches that support self-healing, promote longevity, and optimal health.
The Certificate in Human Services is designed for human services workers and paraprofessionals who never received formal training in human service delivery. It introduces the student to the study and practice of Human Services and provides information about careers in Social Work, Public Health and other social service endeavors.
This program is designed to develop skills that will assist a student in gaining entry level employment in an information technology field such as computer security technician, technical support, and network administration.
The Certificate in Integrative Massage Therapy is designed for individuals who would like to sit for the state licensure exam which is required for entry-level employment in massage therapy. The 650 hour program meets the minimum requirements to sit for the licensure exam. Formal application and acceptance into the program is required before enrolling in class with a MAS prefix.
The curriculum is designed to give students the essential knowledge and basic skills that will enable them to be successful in their woodworking experience, whether as an employee, a self-employed professional, a building contractor or a hobbyist.
Valencia Gainful Employment Certificate Programs
The fine arts program at UNM – Valencia provides students with opportunities to discover art principles and develop their creativity in such subjects as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and photography, Students also study art to broaden their cultural background and enhance their general education. The studio art certificate program is designed to provide a variety of experiences, and courses are planned to meet the needs of all levels of students. The first level of courses is designed for beginning students with little or no experience in fine arts.

As is the case with the associate of arts in business administration degree, the business administration certificate is a transfer program. Today’s business managers must be prepared to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing business environment. The core of the computer-aided drafting certificate program consists of CAD courses with a heavy emphasis on lab work. The symbols and methods used in drafting are covered in the architectural and technical drafting courses. The digital media arts certificate program is a subset of the associate of applied science in digital media arts degree offering only the specific design and computer imaging skills to train the student to provide essential digital media technology assistance in the business environment. Cosmetology-Barbering, Certificate Barbering does not require Manicuring, but does require Honing, Stropping and Shaving (2 credit hours). The clock hours for the certificate are 1200 (40 credit hours). The Certificate in Design & Digital Media is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the computer graphics/publishing field. Students graduating from the program with a certificate will understand the aesthetic and technical challenges involved in graphic design, compute illustration, electronic page layout, digital image editing, and commercial printing. Certificate requirement: a C (2.00) average in Design & Digital Media classes.
The one-year certificate requires a total of 33 credit hours. UNM Gallup offers the successful graduate a Certificate in Drafting/CAD and provides each candidate the basic skills and techniques for entry-level positions, in the fields of Architectural, Mechanical, or Civil Drafting with emphasis on computer-aided drafting. The course content is aimed at clarity of presentation and communication of design ideas. A certificate in Health Information Technology is awarded following successful completion of the 33 credit-hour program. This program is designed to obtain a certificate or those desiring entry-level employment in a health information department, coding. Disease and procedural coding are the methods by which the patient's encounters are classified, allowing the facility to bill insurance companies and government agencies for reimbursement.
The two-semester program gives a foundation for further education in several fields. It enhances student's ability to obtain employment in Human Services areas at the entry-level.
